1. Summary
DropShot is a local-first macOS screenshot organizer. Its core design principle is simple: screenshots, OCR text, thumbnails, filenames, search indexes, and settings stay on your Mac by default.
DropShot does not collect personal data, track users, use advertising identifiers, configure tracking domains, or upload your screenshots to DropShot or third-party servers.
2. Data We Process
To provide screenshot organization features, DropShot processes the following items locally on your device:
- Image files inside screenshot folders that you authorize;
- Images imported from the clipboard;
- On-device OCR text, source app, date, favorite status, and similar metadata;
- App settings such as rename rules, organization rules, OCR language, and launch-at-login preference;
- Thumbnail caches, local SQLite databases, and search indexes.
This data is used on your Mac for search, preview, renaming, archiving, deduplication, and library features. Unless you choose to email us feedback, DropShot does not send this data to us.
3. Local Processing and Storage
DropShot uses Apple Vision for on-device OCR, stores metadata and indexes in a local SQLite database, and keeps thumbnails and database files under Application Support. Your screenshot files remain in the folders you choose or the destination folders you configure.
If you clear the local index, delete app data, or uninstall the app, DropShot's local indexes and caches will no longer be available. Uninstalling the app usually does not automatically delete your original screenshot files.
4. System Permissions
DropShot runs in the macOS sandbox and only accesses folders you authorize. The app may request or use the following permissions and system capabilities:
- Read and write access to user-selected folders, used to watch, rename, organize, and import screenshots;
- Desktop or Documents folder access descriptions, used only when you choose those locations as screenshot or destination folders;
- Clipboard reading, used when you enable or trigger image import from the clipboard;
- Login item permission, used when you choose to launch DropShot at login;
- System APIs such as UserDefaults, file timestamps, and disk-space checks, used to save settings and perform local file operations.
5. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing
DropShot currently does not integrate third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, account systems, or cloud sync services. We do not sell, rent, or share your screenshots or local index data.
If you obtain DropShot through the Mac App Store, Apple may process data related to downloads, purchases, crash diagnostics, or store operations under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. DropShot does not control Apple's processing of that data.
6. Your Choices and Controls
- You can change or remove authorized watch folders at any time;
- You can turn off OCR indexing, automatic renaming, automatic organization, or launch at login;
- You can rebuild or clear the local index inside the app;
- You can delete DropShot data under Application Support to remove local caches and databases;
- You can manage folder and login item permissions in macOS System Settings.
7. Children's Privacy
DropShot is intended for general productivity use and is not directed to children. We do not actively collect any user data and do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Policy Updates
If DropShot later adds accounts, sync, analytics, payments, server-side processing, or third-party SDKs, we will update this policy before those features are released and provide notice through the app or website when appropriate.
